How to Heal from Childhood Trauma

Healing from any kind of trauma is not easy.

Healing is an ongoing process.

Healed, means being able to breathe through the memories. To be able to sit with those thoughts and know: you don’t have to go through that ever again. To know, you are no longer that person.

To recognize that as a child, the fault was NOT yours.

As adults we need to be healed for ourselves, our communities and our potential future children.

We need a deep breathing routine. Inhale and Exhale as many times as you need. Listen to the sounds of your breath. The louder and longer you breathe the easier it becomes to focus on it.

Unfortunately, healing may require you to sit with those memories. I found that addressing them through creative mediums is  beneficial.

  1. Write something , a poem, a story, a song, a journal entry
  2. Paint or draw your feelings
  3. Read or listen to other people share their experience on the same topic
  4. Knowing you aren’t alone in this experience can feel comforting

Once you can identify how those memories make you feel and how they affect your everyday life, you will be able to create an action plan.

Always Remember !

My body is NOT a vessel for someone else’s pleasure. If I don’t like it,  I do not have to participate.

I can say NO! And/or STOP at any moment I choose.

I may not be able to change the past, but I can direct the future how I want.

Buddhist Mindfulness States: “Every breath you take is an opportunity for a new beginning”.

I hope this helped a bit.
