How to Eat Healthy

2024 is coming to an end. 2025 is a fresh start for us all ! Healthy eating habits and exercise are typically on everyone’s resolution list. Keeping our bodies healthy and strong should be our priority. I truly enjoy when others talk about human bodies being temples and sacred parts of our lives. I agree. When we decide to believe this, we treat our bodies as such. Everything we eat, drink, inhale, and absorb matters. A sacred temple deserves the absolute best. The finest care and nurturing. Soft and loving words of affirmation and appreciation. As well as enrichment, knowledge and fulfillment.

Hydration:The basis for healthy eating is what we drink. Hydration is essential for our well-being. We all need good quality water. Fresh spring water is my personal favorite. I love to add lemon, limes, oranges, strawberries, mint and/or cucumbers whenever possible. Some consumers choose water brands packed with electrolytes. Do your own research on what’s best for you.

Tip 1: Always start with water. With the deliciousness and accessibility of shakes, sodas, boba teas, juices, and sugary coffee drinks, we have to be disciplined. When we begin our days, end our nights and enjoy our meals, we must drink water.  After we’ve finished our cup of water,  we can get the fun drink. Be mindful of how often you’re indulging in these fun drinks. I recommend one to two per day maximum. This should be about 24oz per day of a fun drink.

  • 2*12oz cans of soda
  • 1 medium drink at Mcdonalds (USA)
  • 1 Starbucks venti beverage or 2*Talls
  • 1 large boba tea

Eat Fresh Produce: Fresh and raw produce have immense nutritional value. Many garden goods have been proven to cure diseases and reduce side effects. Imagine curing yourself just by eating. Incorporating fresh produce into your everyday eating habits can enhance your life.

Eat the Rainbow, emphasizing green:  Fruits and vegetables are wonderful for us. Ensure you include fresh produce in every meal you eat. With that in mind, leafy greens are to be consumed everyday. A few I enjoy are Kale, Lettuce, Broccoli and Spinach. When we remember the colors we need, we can easily hold ourselves accountable. Ask ourselves, have I eaten my greens? Have I nourished my body of fruits with beautiful colors ?

Pack in the Protein: All the lifters will agree, protein helps you build muscle. Protein is found in both meat and vegan nourishments. I enjoy chickpeas, tree nuts, beans, tofu, and seitan. Lean meats are wonderful options as well; Goats, lamb, chicken, fish. There are even bread and pasta brands that create protein packed versions! Some people even go above and beyond and drink protein shakes and add protein powder to their food and beverages.

Limit sugars and added fats: I am a dessert girl, so I have to be very disciplined in this area. Sometimes I will eat fruits alone or with granola and almond milk to fulfill my sweets cravings. Other times,  I’ll just buy the sweets I wish to have and incorporate fasting and increased physical activity to balance it.

Read the labels: Not all packaged foods are over processed and filled with junk. It’s up to us to read the labels and choose items with ingredients we are familiar with. If you can make the item at home with fresh ingredients, it’s probably a good choice. I try to stay away from high fructose corn syrup, random dyes and added flavors. I especially like to stay away from lab-made ingredients I have to google to understand. Additionally, some items have an unnecessary amount of added sugars and sodium. There are usually alternatives to every product. Take some time to find the healthiest one.

Learn about probiotics and vitamins: Gut health is important in our eating journey. We have to be sure we are digesting what we consume and our body is receiving the necessary benefits. Probiotics help with digestion. Vitamins can help with our skin, hair, nails, sight, strength and overall well-being. Many foods have probiotic properties and nutritional vitamins. Learning more about probiotics and vitamins will help you make the best and most beneficial food choices for your health.

The more you feed your body fresh produce, lean proteins, vitamins and reasonable sugars, the more you’ll crave what’s best for you ! Whether you do an extreme lifestyle change, or a small change each day, I wish you success in your healthy eating  journey!
